Food You & Your Braces Will Love!

While on the journey to your beautiful new smile with braces there are a few foods that you will have to avoid. No worries though, Thomas Orthodontics is here with tasty, easy, and fun foods that you and your braces will love!
To start with, let us go over why you can't eat sticky, ooey, or gooey foods while in braces. Hard and sticky foods run the risk of breaking off brackets, this is the metal part on your tooth that holds the wire, and colored band. If this breaks off, your tooth is no longer being moved which could make treatment time longer. For the ooey and gooey foods such as caramel, there is a risk of breaking off brackets as well, but with sticky foods it is very difficult to clean them out of your braces. The major problem with that is sugar will be sitting on your teeth and runs the risk to cause cavities. To help make sure you have an easy, fast, and effective treatment, we have some easy recipes for you to try at home!
Mac & Cheese
What you will need:
1 stick of butter
1lb of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1lb noodles, elbow noodles works best
1 can of cheddar cheese soup
Boil noodles until soft, drain water and place noodles back into the pot, add shredded cheese, can of cheddar cheese soup, entire stick of butter, and mix until all everything has melted. Serve warm. Serving size 6.
Fruity Oatmeal
What you will need:
1 packet of instant oatmeal unflavored
Half of a banana
10-15 washed blueberries
2-3 washed strawberries
Cook your oatmeal following the instructions on the back of packet, cut up strawberries and banana. Once oatmeal is done, add all fruit. Optional-add milk of your choice if oatmeal is too thick. Serving size 1.
